SPOKANE, Wash. (Nov. 24, 2008) - The 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships have received a major boost in the effort to surpass Spokane's own record setting performance of 2007. Safeway has been named the Local Presenting Sponsor for the Championships which will be held at the Spokane Arena from January 14-24, 2010. Safeway will now take on the most significant local sponsorship role. As the foremost local sponsor Safeway's logo will be attached to the event logo in marketing produced by Star USA.

Safeway has a long history and strong presence in Spokane and Washington State. Safeway was a major local sponsor of the 2007 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships, when the Championships were last held in Spokane.

In addition to its role as the Local Presenting Sponsor, Safeway will be recognized as the Official Grocery Store of the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships providing support of the Championships through their vast marketing vehicles, as well as providing healthy food and beverage selections for the athletes and officials during the Championships.
The U.S. Figure Skating Championships, held annually since 1914, is the nation's most prestigious figure skating event. Past winners include such skating luminaries as Michelle Kwan, Kristi Yamaguchi, Brian Boitano and Scott Hamilton. National champions will be crowned in 12 events: ladies, men's, pairs and ice dancing divisions in the senior, junior and novice levels. The 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be organized by Star USA, which spearheaded the effort that led to Spokane's hosting the State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 2007.
